Perth Trails and Nationals Parks to visit this Spring

It’s finally time to put away your scarves and beanies! With the weather warming up, we are all about getting out and about and enjoying the great outdoors! Let’s discover some of Perth’s gorgeous Trails and National Parks to explore this Spring!

As there are so many beautiful walks to do around the Perth CBD, I thought I would share some of my own experiences on some local gems…

Whistle Pipe Gully - Kalamunda

Whistle Pipe Gully is a short 3.5 km walk that follows a creek with small waterfalls along the way. It has spectacular cityscape views and would be a great one to do with your kids and fur babies (leash-only). There is some rocky terrain and steps along the track, so I wouldn’t recommend bringing the pram if you wish to go all the way! Pack a snack and watch the breathtaking outlook from the top of the main waterfall, or find a spot to sit under one of the many vibrant yellow Wattle trees. This is a walk I love to do at this time of year, as the water is gushing and it’s not too hot! But make sure you stay hydrated on your walk!

Emu Falls - Avon Valley

I went to Emu Falls, Avon Valley, not too long ago with the family, and we all absolutely love it! This is a nice and easy trail to test out your new tights and have a relaxing, albeit rocky, walk up the Avon River. Fellow Western Australians may already know this, but this is also the location of our annual Avon Descent event. Because of this, the area is also full of amenities like toilets, camping spots and BBQs available for lunch. Such a great place to make memories!

Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary - Gidgegannup

This final trail is one I ALWAYS thoroughly enjoy - the Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary. This walk has to be booked online as there is a small admin fee that goes towards the wildlife conservation. The sanctuary consists of 3 loop trails; the Possum trail (2km), the Quenda trail (6.5km), and the Numbat trail (12.5km) - or as I like to call it, “my two-year-old could walk this” trail, the “cruisy Susie” trail, and the “Iron Man/Kokoda track preparation” trail. I recommend going on the Numbat trail to see all the amazing wild flowers. Every time I have done this walk, it looks different and that’s what makes it so special to me. So pack a picnic, plenty of water and spend the day exploring the wildlife - you might even spot an Echidna or Kangaroo!

Enjoy the Spring weather, breathe in the fresh air and make the most of what we have at our doorstep! I hope you enjoy these places as much as I do, and remember to pack plenty of water, slip-slop-slap, and wear your tights, hat and sunnies!
